Day Five Hundred and Ninety

Sunday 6th April 2014 ~ Today began with a play in Aunt Nelia's room - I danced to jazz, tried on her shoes and sunglasses and generally had a great time being silly. Little did I know an epic adventure awaited...
First stop was the village of Teguise, to see the local market and hopefully have some lunch. I have to admit, first impressions weren't great - the sky was overcast and as we left the car park we ran into this strange garden filled with mysterious statues. There was a girl in a red dress and two smiling giants.
A scary baby...
And a man with a cracked face, Daddy said something about it being nightmare fuel and we quickly hurried past...
With Mummy giving me an extra cuddle for good measure.
When we finally got into town I decided that I didn't want to look at the boring shops, so Daddy, who didn't seem to mind missing out at all, and me watched a man play a giant set of panpipes...
I even thought I'd join in by blowing my nose - toot toot!
After a little while Mummy came back and I explained all about music and the importance of counting out the beat: one-two-three, one-two-three...
After the music lesson was over, I decided I would like to come shopping after all, so long as I could have a biscuit and could walk wherever I wanted.
Mummy bought a lovely necklace and then we went for lunch.
The restaurant we went to was set in a courtyard, with a beautiful mosaic and the sound of running water. Initially, I didn't think much of the food, it was very posh and fancy, so I decided to call the waiter over and complain. To my surprise he took my recommendations on board immediately and brought me a delicious ice-cream, which I scoffed while sitting on Mummy's knee.
After I'd had enough, Daddy took me off for a walk so that everyone else could enjoy their meal in peace, whatever that means.
Then it was time to go. It was very hot by now, not a bit cloudy, so on the way back to the car we decided to have a rest. Here's Nelia and Phil.
And here's Uncle Ellis drinking delicious hot chocolate.
As we walked down the hill to the car park, Mummy and Nelia danced and sang to me, but by now I was ready for a nap.
We drove for quite a while as I slept and then stopped suddenly at the ends of the Earth. After I woke up Daddy picked me up carried me into a building and then down a flight of stone steps into a magical cave - Jameos del Agua Wow!
Mummy said photos don't really do this place justice, I think she's probably right.
In the water little crabs swam and played.
It really was pretty exciting.
On the other side of the cave was a strange pool and some stairs. We all climbed to the top and Aunt Nelia took a family portrait, by now I was feeling pretty sleepy again and thoughtful.
But little did I know, there was more to come. We climbed back in the car and drove through the wilderness to another cave - Cueva de los Verdes. Daddy picked me up and we went down, down, down into the Earth - bye, bye sky.
I have to admit, I got a little scared by all the darkness so Mummy took me and held me close as we squeezed ever downwards.
I saw some amazing sights.
Rocks split in two by a lava from a volcano that erupted almost 4,000 years ago.
And at the bottom, there were chairs and a stage. I bet it would be really good to see a band here - Mummy said she wanted to listen to Holst and Nelia said Kraftwerk. I don't think I've heard of either of those before, do they play any of the classics: Baba Black Sheep, Wheels on the Bus or Twinkle Twinkle?
Mummy gave me a cuddle and told me what good girl I'd been. Then we clambered our way back to to the surface.
We had one last place to visit on this epic Sunday - Mirador del Rio. Unfortunately, by the time we got there it was almost closing time and the clouds had moved in for the evening.
So, with that, we cut our losses and hit the road. Driving through some beautiful countryside.
Then through the clouds themselves, all the way home, to bed and dreams of the sky and music and monsters and deep caves underground of an epic adventure.
